It’s finally happening

That’s right! It’s finally happening! We found our future home on wheels.

A small bus, a big dream.

We’ve had our heart set on buying a newer Ford Transit since we started this journey, but we never decided that we wouldn’t look at other vans. And well, it happened. We saw a MB Sprinter for sale on a selling platform here in Iceland and we were pretty stoked when we saw it.

Freyja is a 1998 model, long wheelbase Mercedes Benz Sprinter 412d bus. Her current owner has some things to do before we get her, since doesn’t have her tags on or anything like that. She has had her yearly inspection and everything is fine with her. We went for a long drive yesterday to go and check her out and everything just felt right.

Why Freyja?

Well, first off we are Icelandic and our paths to here have taken us through a lot, including Norse mythology. And it is from there the name Freyja comes. As they say in her Wikipedia article:

In Norse mythology, Freyja (/ˈfreɪə/; Old Norse for “(the) Lady”) is a goddess associated with love, beauty, fertility, sex, war, gold, and seiðr. Freyja is the owner of the necklace Brísingamen, rides a chariot pulled by two cats, is accompanied by the boar Hildisvíni, and possesses a cloak of falcon feathers.

From Wikipedia

The cloak made of falcon feathers made it possible for her to change into a bird and fly to wherever she wanted to. And therefore we thought her name was perfect for what this bus means to us and what doors she opens for us.

We have tons in store and our minds are full of ideas and we are planning all manner fun things. First of all, she is full of seats and has overhead shelfs which we will have to get rid of when we strip her.
